CLINTON WANTS 2ND LOOK AT ARMY CORPS PLAN
President Clinton wants to review a Bush administration plan that would have doubled the size of the Norfolk's Army Corps of Engineers district office by consolidating operations nationwide, officials said."Although we must organize the corps so that it can best meet the challenges we face in the future, it is not clear to me that the current plan meets this objective," Clinton said in a Feb. 4 letter to House Majority Leader Rep. Richard Gephart, D-Mo.
The Bush plan would cut $115 million in annual expenses and 2,600 positions nationally by 1995. Clinton is looking for more cuts.
