THERE STANDS POWELL, LIKE A STONE WALL
CONGRATULATIONS on your Feb. 12 editorial, "Powell misses echoes from '40s." You stated some things that needed to be said. Powell has been spoon-fed too long by President Clinton's predecessors, Republicans and senators. He is a stone wall to the president's plan for cutting back and making more cost-effective changes in our military. He is opposed to reducing the four separate air wings for each branch of our military to one that would serve all branches. This alone would save billions, according to qualified experts. He even opposes one corps of chaplains for all branches, as well as legal officers, and insists each of the four branches has its own.
There is only one commander in chief and it ain't Colin Powell. G. GARLAND WILSON RADFORD
