RELIGION BRIEFS

BOTETOURT CHURCHES OF THE BRETHREN are sponsoring Sunday night Lenten services. Sunday, the Rev. Dr. Harold S. Moyer will discuss "Growing in Christ" at the Daleville Church on U.S. 220.

The two remaining services will be on March 14, when the Rev. Becky Baile-Crouse speaks at Trinity Church, and on March 21 when the Rev. Richard Gottshall speaks at Mount Bethel Church.

All programs are from 7 to 8 p.m. and include music and a discussion of distinctive Brethren beliefs.

\ A YOUTH CRUSADE FOR CHRIST is planned March 28 at 6 p.m. at Loudon Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Seventh Street and Loudon Avenue Northwest. The Modern Beauticians Club, which is sponsoring the event, is seeking youth choirs to participate.

For more information, call or write Ruth Gassett, 16 Wells Ave. N.W. by March 15.

\ THE FESTIVAL OF PURIM, which commemorates the deliverance of the ancient Jews by the heroism of Queen Esther, will be celebrated Saturday at Temple Emanuel and Beth Israel Synagogue.

This year's celebration will include a concert by the Klezmer Conservatory Band that night at 8 at Temple Emanuel, Brambleton Avenue at Persinger Road Southwest. A nursery will be provided. Call 342-3378 for more information.

\ FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 515 Third Street S.W., will start having two worship services with corresponding Sunday schools this Sunday. The first service and Sunday school will begin at 9, and the second service and Sunday school at 10:30 a.m.

The Rev. Charles G. Fuller, pastor, said the goal is to fill the worship center, which was occupied eight months ago, for both services. Fuller said the schedule has been arranged so that people of all ages can have both a full educational and worship experience and the extended session formerly needed for small children can be eliminated.

Deadline for religion briefs for Neighbors is Thursday. Material must be delivered to Neighbors Religion Briefs, P.O. Box 2491, Roanoke 24010, by noon in order to run in the following Thursday edition.
