KRISTEN HUFFMAN, daughter of Huffman Gwen Williams of Roanoke and Gary Huffman of Moneta, won the State Young Woman of the Year Scholarship, a full four-year grant to attend Troy (Ala.) State University.

Huffman, a freshman chemistry major and graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, was Virginia's Young Woman of the Year for 1992.

\ FERRUM COLLEGE has named several Roanoke-area students to its fall dean's list. They are:

Jo Ellen Gordon, John McNeil, Carol Carter and Joseph N. Stanley, all of Roanoke; Michael Wayne Myers of Salem; Bradley Jay Davis of Vinton; Stacy Lorraine Patterson of Blue Ridge; Thomas Eide of Fincastle; and Marshall Myers of Daleville.

\ MELISSA BETH SCHAUER of 3360 Lakeland Drive S.W. has been named to the fall honor roll at Northeast Missouri State University, where she is a psychology major.

\ PAULA KISTNER and JENNIFER RUTLEDGE have been named to the honor roll at Bluefield College.

Kistner is from Roanoke, and Rutledge is from Vinton.

\ FREED-HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY in Henderson, Tenn., has named the following Roanoke-area students to its fall semester dean's list. They are:

From Roanoke - Lisa Freeland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Freeland, a business administration major; Tracy Leftwich, daughter of Mrs. Frank Leftwich, a social work major; and Stephanie McLaughlin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth McLaughlin, an arts and humanities major.

From Troutville - Duane Dixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Dixon, a physical science major.

\ JACQUELYN K. "LYN" EDMUNDS, daughter of Keith C. and Martha G. Edmunds of 3866 Winding Way Road S.W., has received a $900 scholarship from the Greensboro Quota Club Edmunds for study at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Edmunds, a senior majoring in education of the deaf, is a 1988 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ VICKI LYNN BOGGS and LORI MARIE UNGERER, have been named to the B dean's list for the fall semester at Elon (N.C.) College.

Boggs is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip O. Boggs of Salem, and Ungerer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Ungerer of Roanoke.

\ MARGARET E. BOURDEAUX, a senior at Patrick Henry High School, is one of two students from Virginia selected to attend the Century III Leaders Conference in Williamsburg in March.

The students will study national and world issues, work to develop strategic solutions and hone leadership skills while meeting with leaders in business, education and government.

The honor also includes a $1,000 college scholarship.

\ VIRGINIA TECH has announced the names of Roanoke Valley students who graduated after the fall semester.

Those receiving doctorate degrees are: Marcia J. Degen, Myra Delia D. Kagey, Kent A. Murphy and Bonnie E. Nelson, all of Roanoke; and Mary Cherian of Salem.

Those receiving certificates of advanced graduate study are Daniel W. Devilbiss Jr. of Roanoke and Walter V. Denning Jr. of Salem.

Recipients of master's degrees are: George W. Blackmore, Stacy H. Campbell, Mary Page G. Gwaltney, Marsha S. Hoshko, Kaye F. Johnson, Robert T. Poole, James W. Rhea, Judith A. Runyon and Steven J. \ RICHARD M. ANDERSON JR. of 5812 Bridlewood Drive S.W. has received a bachelor of arts degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

\ LORI M. EADES, of 4306 Fontaine Drive, has been named to the fall-semester dean's list at Wingate (N.C.) College.

\ SARAH L. DILLON of Roanoke has been named to the fall-semester dean's list at Barton College in Wilson, N.C.

\ BRETT E. JONES and THOMAS P. NELSON of Roanoke have been named to the fall-semester dean's list at High Point (N.C.) University.

\ AMY E. BROWN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Brown of 3927 Bosworth Drive, has been named to the fall-term dean's list at Washington and Lee University, where she is a junior.

\ ELLIE PORTER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Porter of Roanoke, has been named to the honor list for the fall semester at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga.

Porter also has been named to the 1993 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

\ KELLY E. DIERKER and MICHELLE E. BOWERS have been awarded Presidential Scholarships for the 1993-94 academic year from Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, N.C.

Dierker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dierker, is a senior at Cave Spring High School.

Bowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bowers Jr., is a senior at William Byrd High School.
