CRAIG BOARD OK'S $3 MILLION BUDGET WITH 2 PERCENT RAISES
The Craig County School Board approved its budget for the next school term and recognized two deputies and a high school senior Tuesday.
The $3,035,452 budget for 1993-94 provides for a 2 percent pay raise for all personnel. It also provides for the hiring of one additional full-time and two part-time teachers and the purchase of four module classrooms to help relieve crowding.
The budget for the current year is $2,967,816.
The sheriff's deputies were recognized for quickly solving a burglary at McCleary Elementary School.
Robert "Ike" Craft and Mitch Deskins, in about six hours of investigation, arrested two men and recovered several thousand dollars worth of electronic equipment.
Craft identified the two men as Richard Crews, 36, and Billy Ray Crawford, 21, both of New Castle. They have been charged with burglary and grand larceny, Craft said.
The burglary occurred Sunday night, and the deputies solved the case before the school opened Monday morning, said James Cady, chairman of the school board.
At Cady's suggestion the school board directed that a letter of appreciation be sent to the Sheriff's Department.
Jeffrey S. Ford, a senior at Craig County High School, was recognized for scholastic achievement. He is a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program.
