\ Reception for writer

A reception for Emory writer Laura Lee Mason will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Arts Depot in Abingdon.

\ Volunteers needed

The Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke needs volunteers to assist in restoration activities, tour guides and front desk duties.

Restoration tasks include working on the museum's rolling stock collection and helping to design new exhibits. Guides are needed for visits by area elementary schools in the spring. Greeting the public, answering phones and clerical work are included in front-desk responsibilities.

Training will be provided in all areas. Volunteers will be needed during regular museum hours: Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Call 342-5670.
