MAN CHARGED WITH 7 SEX OFFENSES

A former Blacksburg resident has been indicted in Pulaski County on seven charges involving sexual offenses against a female juvenile.

Saladin Kenyatta Corbin, 27, faces a charge of attempted rape, a charge of attempted forcible oral sex, two counts of aggravated sexual battery and three charges of taking indecent liberties. All involved the same girl, who was under age 14.

A grand jury brought the indictments against Corbin on Feb. 16, but Circuit Judge A. Dow Owens had ordered them sealed until Corbin's arrest. They were unsealed Thursday.

Corbin, now a resident of Washington, D.C., was being held in the Pulaski County jail. No bond had been set Thursday. He is scheduled to be arraigned March 17 in Circuit Court.

The charges stem from incidents alleged to have happened in January and February 1992.

Corbin was studying at the time for a Ph.D. He had been an intern at Saint Albans Psychiatric Hospital near Radford but was never employed there, according to personnel records.

He is charged with suggesting to the girl that he fondle her sexually and that she have sex with him, and with sexually abusing her in January. The charges stemming from February are that he again suggested sexual fondling, a second charge of sexual abuse, attempted oral sex and attempted rape.
