Whitney Houston gave birth to a 6-pound, 12-ounce girl Thursday. Her husband, fellow singer Bobby Brown, was at her side.

Houston and her daughter were resting comfortably, said her spokeswoman, Lisa Hintelmann. She said the baby's name had not yet been chosen.

Houston, 29, and Brown, 24, were married at their home in Mendham, N.J., in June. Brown said last month he was hoping for a girl and that she would be named Bobbi.

The child was Houston's first and Brown's fourth.
