CONCERT WILL BE ALL MARCH MUSIC

The Wytheville Community College Concert Band will offer a concert titled "March for Marches" on March 16 at 8 p.m. in the George Wythe High School auditorium. Admission is free.

The program will consist entirely of marches and will feature the compositions of John Philip Sousa.

Band Director Jack White will give the audience background on Sousa's life and career as well as information on each march performed.

White has directed the band since it was formed in the fall of 1989. It now has 85 members from the college's service region and other parts of Southwest Virginia.

Marches to be performed include "The Thunderer," "El Capitan" and "Stars and Stripes Forever." The "March for Marches" concert is a new band feature this year.

The band also will give its annual spring concert May 4 and is scheduled to perform at the college's graduation ceremony May 14, the dedication of Wytheville's Wall of Honor at Withers Park May 30 and the Wytheville Chautauqua Festival June 27.

Further information on the band is available from Dan Jones by calling 228-5541 or toll-free from outside Wythe County (800)-468-1195, extension 235.
