OBIT HALEY, BARNETTE KEITH SR. ("BARNEY")

HALEY, Barnette Keith Sr. ("Barney"), 84, of Roanoke, died Sunday morning, March 7, 1993. Mr. Haley devoted his life to helping others, and was a deacon emeritus of Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke. He was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad, Radford Division. He was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop No. 2 at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church for 28 years, and was active in scouting for most of his life. His scout troop produced 85 eagle scouts over the years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Leah Settle Haley; two sons & daughters-in-law, Dr. B. Keith Jr. and Natalie Haley of Troutville, Col. Donald Lee and Wanda Haley of Irmo, S.C.; grandchildren, Karen Bryce Haley of Richmond, Robin Haley Gillin of Toronto, Canada, Brian Haley of Goose Creek, S.C., Douglas Haley of Aiken, S.C.; a great-grandson, Lee Haley; one brother, Dr. Carl W. Haley, Norfolk; and three sisters, Nancy H. Bunger of Portsmouth, Lucie H. Laudenslager of Allentown, Pa., Martha H. Oren of Englewood, Colo. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel noon Tuesday by the Rev. Dennis Herman and Dr. Harry Y. Gamble. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family suggests memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
