SAVINGS BOND SALES DECLINE IN FEBRUARY
Sales of U.S. savings bonds in February slipped 20.3 percent from the month before, but still remained above $2 billion for the fifth time in six months.Sales totaled $2.03 billion, down from $2.55 billion in January. Still, that was 70.8 percent higher than last February's $1.19 billion and the best February since 1944.
Sales for all of last year, $17.7 billion, broke a 48-year-old record set during World War II. Sales are expected to fall this year, however, because on Feb. 27, the Treasury reduced the guaranteed minimum rate to 4 percent. - Associated Press
