SMYTH YOUTH CAUGHT AFTER CAR CHASE, WRECK
Authorities chased a Smyth County juvenile through three counties Sunday before the stolen car he was driving wrecked at the Emory exit of Interstate 81.The Honda Maxima was apparently stolen in Marion at some time Saturday and driven to Wytheville, where the driver stopped for gas at the Crown Service Station and left without paying.
A Wytheville police officer located the car and called for additional units before making the arrest. When state and Wythe County officers arrived, the driver of the Honda fled.
A chase began that went from Wythe through Smyth and into Washington County at speeds of up to 140 mph before the wreck. The driver and another juvenile in the car were not hurt.
The driver faces charges of grand larceny for the car, petty larceny for the gas, failure to stop for police and a series of traffic offenses.
