GALAX MAN FACES ROBBERY CHARGE

A 20-year-old Galax man has been charged with the New Year's Day robbery of a grocery store in Carroll County.

Joseph Dale Brown was being held Monday night in the Carroll County Jail on charges of robbing Carter Felt's grocery on the evening of Jan. 1, a Carroll County Sheriff's Department dispatcher said.

Authorities arrested Brown after matching fingerprints left on some checks during the robbery with prints in a statewide data base of convicted criminals, the dispatcher said.
