OBIT UMBARGER, PAUL
UMBARGER, Paul, 77, of Roanoke died Sunday, March 7, 1993, in a local
hospital. He was past president of Moore's Super Stores, Inc., one of several
firms he co-founded and guided during a long business career. During World War
II, he served as an intelligence officer with the U.S. Army culminating his
service on the staff of General George C. Marshall, where he assisted with
formulation of The Marshall Plan for rebuilding Europe. As an active part-time
farmer, he was known for his accomplishments in cattle breeding. He is
survived by his wife, Zofia M. Umbarger, Roanoke; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Amy U. and Mark Zavrel, Heidi U. and Dr. Manuel Perez, all of
Alexandria; one brother and sister-in-law, John N. and Mary W. Umbarger,
Washington, D.C. A memorial service will be conducted by Dr. William R. Klein
at Second Presbyterian Church, Roanoke on Wednesday, March 10 at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Georgetown Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. In
lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials may be directed to
the local chapter of American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 554, Roanoke, Va.
