Charming Shoppes Inc. of Bensalem, Pa., parent of Fashion Bug and Fashion Bug Plus chains, on Tuesday reported record earnings and sales for the fiscal quarter ended Jan. 30.Earnings rose 31 percent to $25.9 million, or 24 cents per share, from $19.7 million, or 18 cents per share, for the corresponding period last year. Fourth-quarter sales were $337.2 million, up 14 percent from year-earlier sales.
For the year, earnings increased 39 percent to $81.1 million, or 75 cents per share, compared to $58.3 million, or 55 cents per share for the previous year. Sales increased to $1.2 billion from $1 billion.
The per-share results reflect the effect of a 2-for-1 stock split paid on Dec. 7.
