FLOYD MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUAL BATTERY

A Floyd County man pleaded guilty Tuesday to four counts of aggravated sexual battery of a young girl who is now an adult. Marvin Clinton Carden II, 29, of Route 3, will serve six years of a 12-year sentence. Then he will be placed on probation for six years.

Carden's pleas were in response to two indictments of sodomy and two indictments of sexual penetration with an inanimate object.

Commonwealth's Attorney Gino Williams said the offenses began about 12 years ago when the girl was 6 or 7. The indictments cover a time period of September 1981 to August 1985.

Carden also faces charges in Montgomery County involving the same girl. A Montgomery County grand jury indicted him in October on four counts of forcible sodomy from 1983 through 1986.

The woman reported the incidents in July, saying she had been sodomized every summer during those four years while visiting a relative's home in Christiansburg. She began talking about the incidents after going through counseling, Commonwealth's Attorney Phil Keith said.

Carden is scheduled for an April 21 hearing on the Montgomery charges.
