OBIT THURMAN, ROY R.
THURMAN, Roy R. 83, of Roanoke, died March 10, 1993 in a local hospital. He
was a member of Cave Spring Baptist Church and a long time member of the Cave
Spring Rescue Squad. He served in World War II and retired from the American
Viscose. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma Naff Thurman; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Darrell Craighead, Salem, Winona and
Howard Pendley, Savannah, Ga.; five grandchildren, Brent Munsey, Candi Munsey,
Salem, Sherrie Cox, Bedford, Michelle Cox, Savannah, Ga., Todd Cox and his
wife Stacey, Charleston, S.C.; three stepgrandchildren, Adam Craighead,
Atlanta Ga., Van Pendley, Richmond, and Currie Pendley, Ala.; one surviving
sister, Mary Betty Riley, Wirtz; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Rolen C.
Bailey and Dr. Woodrow W. Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain
View Memorial Park, Franklin County. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest
memorials be made to Cave Spring Baptist Church or Cave Spring Rescue Squad.
Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Thursday.
