OBIT PECK, L. CLARK, JR.
PECK, L. Clark, Jr. 87, of Abingdon, died Tuesday, March 9, 1993 in The
Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn. He was born in
Bluefield, W.Va. on June 27, 1905 and was the son of the late Lewis Clark and
Gertrude Nelson Peck. During World War II he served as chairman of the War
Price and Rationing Board in Bluefield, W.Va. and was awarded a medal for
meritorious service. He was a graduate of Bluefield College and was employed
by the Appalachian Power Company in August of 1926. He was transferred to
Abingdon in August of 1948 as Distribution Records Supervisor and he remained
in this position until his retirement in July 1970. He was a past president of
Abingdon Rotary Club who had been honored with the Paul Harris Award and he
was a Past Master of Abingdon Masonic Lodge #48 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of
the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church where he had served as president of the
Mens Bible Class and the Men of the Church. He had also served as a deacon and
elder. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Rorrer Peck; two sisters,
Elsa Gertrude Carter and Mildred L. Uhler and two brothers, Howell Lee (Bill)
Peck and William Warren Peck. Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Charles
Brunner of Lake City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services
for L. Clark Peck, Jr. will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in the Sinking Spring
Presbyterian Church, Abingdon with the Rev. Dr. Robert N. Lominack, Jr.
officiating. Active pallbearers will be James F. Hagy, Neel Rich, Sloan W.
Southerlin, Donald C. Landreth, Robert L. May and Lewis Woolwine. Honorary
pallbearers will be members of the Abingdon Rotary Club and Abingdon Masonic
Lodge #48 A.F. & A.M. Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in
the New Dublin Cemetery, Dublin with the Rev. Dr. Mason Tate officiating. The
family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be in the form of
contributions to memorial funds at the Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church, 136
E. Main Street, Abingdon, Va. 24210 or the New Dublin Presbyterian Church
Cemetery Fund, c/o W.M. Guthrie, Route 2, Box 118B, Dublin, Va. 24084. The
family will receive friends at the Campbell Funeral Home from 7 to 9 Thursday
evening. Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
