IN SERVICE

AIRMAN CHARLES P. PERDUE JR., son of Charles P. Perdue Sr. of 2751 Colonial Ave., graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Perdue is a 1991 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ SENIOR AIRMAN RANDALL S. HODGES, grandson of Walter E. and Louise O. Scott of 32 Hillcrest Park, has arrived for duty at Misawa Air Base, Japan. Hodges, a law-enforcement specialist, is a 1988 graduate of Berean Christian Academy.

\ SGT. WAYNE R. JONES, son of David R. and Janet C. Jones of 3833 Bower Road S.W., recently was promoted to his present rank while serving with Headquarters Squadron at Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, Calif. Jones is a 1986 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ NAVY LT. CMDR. WILLIAM J. TOTI, son of Joseph W. and Jean C. Toti of 4719 Easthill Drive S.W., recently received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and was named action officer of the year in a citation presented by Gen. Colin Powell, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Toti, a 1979 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, was recognized for his service on Powell's staff. He now is assigned to Naval Submarine Base Bangor, in Silverdale, Wash.

\ MARINE PFC. DANIEL E. KIDD, son of Kenneth Kidd of Roanoke and Carol Hodges of Rocky Mount, recently completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C.

Kidd, a 1992 graduate of Franklin County High School, will take combat and infantry training at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

\ STAFF SGT. MARTIN L. YOUNG, son of Milton L. and Shirley J. Young of 2820 Westhampton Ave., recently reported for duty with Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 1 in Okinawa, Japan.

Young is a 1980 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS BRADLEY A. BLANKENSHIP, son of Charlotte L. Blankenship of 321 10th St., Vinton, and Stephen P. Blankenship of Troutville, has reported for duty aboard the submarine tender USS Simon Lake, based in Norfolk.

Blankenship is a 1990 graduate of Salem High School.
