SCIENCE FAIR TO BE APRIL 2-3 IN WYTHEVILLE
The second Blue Ridge Highlands Regional Science Fair will be held April 2-3 at Wytheville Community College and is expected to have even more schools taking part this year.Entries are coming from schools in the counties of Montgomery, Giles, Pulaski, Wythe, Bland, Smyth, Carroll, Grayson and the city of Galax, as well as from students who attend the Southwest Virginia Governor's School at Dublin.
Exhibits will be set up on the first day. They will be judged from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second day and will then be open to the public until 4:30 p.m.
The entries are from among top winners in local science fairs. Some of the schools taking part this year held their first science fairs this year.
Last year was the first time a regional science fair has been held in this part of Virginia. It is sponsored again this year by New River and Wytheville Community Colleges.
The project is supported by funds contributed by businesses from the community colleges' service areas.
Eleven high schools are expected to offer senior division entries, and 14 schools will have junior division exhibits.
This year's two grand award winners will be taking their projects to the 44th annual Science and Engineering Fair in Gulfport, Miss. That fair now includes 25 foreign countries along with entries by U.S. students. - Southwest Bureau
