Painter gives slide show and lecture
Artist James McGarrell, professor of painting at Washington University, will give a slide show and lecture on his work Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Green Drawing Room of Hollins College's Main Building.
McGarrell is known for his coloristic multipanel paintings, which are both narrative and surreal.
Aside from painting, McGarrell was one of the earliest recorders of New Orleans jazz. An English reissue of his "Barnes Bocage Big Five" session won Great Britain's historic jazz record of the year.
For more information on the lecture, call the college at 362-6451.
