WVU SENIOR WINS NCAA RIFLE TITLE
West Virginia's Eric Uptagrafft and Trevor Gathman won individual national titles Friday at the NCAA rifle championships at VMI in Lexington, Va.Uptagrafft, a senior from Spokane, Wash., won the smallbore competition with a score of 1,174 out of 1,200. Xavier's Jason Parker was second at 1,168, and Tennessee Tech's Steve Morabito was third at 1,166.
Gathman, a freshman from Corbett, Ore., won the air rifle competition with a score of 390 out of 400. Murray State's Kate Kelemen also scored 390 but finished second because she had seven fewer shots in the center of the target than Gathman. West Virginia's Pam Stalzer was third at 388.
The team competitions will be held today. West Virginia will be seeking its sixth consecutive title.
