JAIL OVERCROWDING GETTING WORSE
I'M PRESENTLY incarcerated in the Roanoke city jail, so I'm responding to articles in the Roanoke Times & World-News concerning jail overcrowding. The overcrowding is causing problems for both jail staff and inmates. While being here, I've had to sleep on the floor, I've been into and have seen numerous fights in which inmates have seriously hurt each other. The overcrowding and fights are caused by too many people in one area, and it's getting worse each day.
Sheriff Alvin Hudson knows the problems that go on, but the public is not aware of the whole story. Something really needs to be done before it gets out of control. A lot of the problems could be avoided if we received better food and medical attention, and if we were treated as humans. WILLIAM TUCKER ROANOKE CITY JAIL
