Kenny Rogers chain opens 50th locationKenny Rogers Roasters, a chicken-specialty restaurant chain with a franchise in Roanoke, opened its 50th restaurant Monday, in Owensboro, Ky.
Roasters, Ltd., based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., was founded by entertainer Kenny Rogers and John Y. Brown Jr., former governor of Kentucky and co-owner of Kentucky Fried Chicken. Its first location opened in Coral Springs, Fla., 18 months ago. - Wire report

DETROIT - In the second dramatic turnaround in days, General Motors Corp. announced Monday that its purchasing chief, who was credited with paring $1 billion from the ailing automaker's auto-parts budget, was leaving.
Volkswagen spokeswoman Maria Leonhauser said Sunday that Lopez, 52, had signed a contract with the German automaker.
Lopez' cost-cutting was seen as crucial to GM's effort to return to profitability after losing billions of dollars in recent years. - Associated Press
