CORPORATIONS GET IRS BREAK
Virginia corporations got a sliver of good news from the weekend's storm. The Internal Revenue Service said corporations unable to meet the March 15 deadline for filing corporate tax returns because of the snow have been given an extension until March 31.
Monday was the date for filing forms 1120 or 1120-A by corporations operating on a calendar year.
The Internal Revenue Service said company officials and accountants who could not reach a post office will be considered on time if returns are received by March 31 and the word "Blizzard" is written in red ink across the top of the form.
A monthly penalty of 5 percent of the unpaid tax, plus a penalty for late filing, will be added after that date unless another extension is requested.
