BARBER SETS MARK IN FINISHING FIRST AT NATIONAL MEET
Ronde Barber of Cave Spring High School set a meet record Monday in the 55-meter hurdles at the 10th annual Nike National Scholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships.Barber finished first in 7.19 seconds, running the fourth-fastest high school hurdles time ever.
The meet, held at the Manley Fieldhouse on the Syracuse University campus, featured standout high school athletes from across the country.
Tiki Barber of Cave Spring was second in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 24 feet, 9 inches.
In other performances from Cave Spring athletes, Emily Rakes placed seventh in the girls' high jump by clearing 5 feet, 3 inches and the 200-meter relay team of Chris Vaughan, Travis Manning, Ronde Barber and Tiki Barber finished fourth.
Darius Pemberton of Hackensack, N.J., set an American high school record in the pentathlon with 4,120 points and Tony Wheeler of Hampton, Va., broke the national scholastic record in the 200 meters with a time of 21.29 seconds.
