`STAR TREK'S' MARK TWAIN COMING TO BARTER THEATRE

Jerry Hardin, who played Mark Twain on two episodes of the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" TV series, will play the writer and humorist again at Barter Theatre from April 1-4 at 8 p.m. each day.

A former Barter actor, Hardin played Twain in 1992 on two "Trek" episodes (they are being repeated at 4 p.m. today and Wednesday on Channel 13) and was encouraged by its producers and director to develop his own Mark Twain show.

He did and will be performing it for the first time when he returns to Barter.

"We are honored that Jerry selected Barter for his premiere as Mark Twain," said Richard Rose, Barter's artistic director. "It's an added bonus that `Star Trek' 's LesLandau will be joining our distinguished alumnus to direct him herein Abingdon."

Actress Mary Martin, the 1955 Barter Award-winner for her performance in "Peter Pan" on Broadway, chose Hardin from auditioners for Barter that season. After several years at Barter, he worked off-Broadway and in regional theaters nationally including The Alley, The Globe, Arena Stage and Manitoba Theatre Center.

Television appearances in addition to the 1992 season premiere of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" include a leading role in the series, "Filthy Rich," and appearances on "Evening Shade," "Picket Fences," "L.A. Law," "Quantum Leap," "Golden Girls," "I'll Fly Away" and "Matlock."

General admission to his "Mark Twain: One Man and His World" is $8.50. Students and Barter Patron Book-holders will be admitted for $6.50. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 628-3991 locally or toll-free (800) 368-3240.
