OBIT WILKES, LILLIE MAY
WILKES, Lillie May, 93, of Bedford, passed away Friday, March 12, 1993 in
the Bedford County Nursing Home. She was born February 10, 1900 in Grayson
County, a daughter of the late William Padgett and Margaret Hurd Padgett. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Gurvis Wilkes, and two sons, Garnett
Wilkes and Allen A. Wilkes. She was a member of the Thaxton Baptist Church and
also of the Lizzie McGee Circle. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law,
Frances W. and Charles E. Dunham, Bedford; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Wilkes,
Lynchburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Whitt and Alice Padgett, Galax; four
grandchildren, Janice Fitzgerald, Martinsville, Charles Dunham Jr., Goldsboro,
N.C., Allen Wilkes Jr., New York City, N.Y., Kirk Wilkes, Danville, New
Jersey; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted
Wednesday, March 17, 1993 at 3 p.m. from the Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford,
by the Rev. Michael DuVal and Dr. Carl Douglass Jr. Interment will follow in
the Wilkes Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence
of the daughter, Frances W. Dunham, 904 Burks Hill Road, Bedford. Arrangements
are being handled by Updike Funeral Home, Bedford.
