1 KILLED IN WRECK IN FRANKLIN COUNTY
A Rocky Mount man was killed Tuesday night when his car struck a tractor trailer that was crossing U.S. 220 in Franklin County.Arthur R. Martin Jr., 46, died at the scene of the 6:30 p.m. accident, state trooper James Semones said.
Martin's car was heading south on the highway when it struck the side of the flatbed trailer, which was stopped in the highway, waiting to cross into the northbound lanes, Semones said.
The car was stuck under the trailer and had its roof crushed, Semones said. Martin was wearing a seat belt.
Police charged the truck's driver, Kevin Wayne Huffman, of Craigsville, W.Va., with improperly stopping in a highway, Semones said. Huffman was not injured.
