OBIT ANDREWS, MARVIN EDWARD
ANDREWS, Marvin Edward, 89, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 1993
after a long illness. Born in Bedford County, Mr. Andrews was the son of the
late John A. and Addie Tankersley Andrews. Mr. Andrews grew up in Roanoke and
graduated from the old Roanoke High School. He was founder and president of
Andrews-Pitzer-Butler Fuel Oil Corporation. He started in business in 1926
with Andrews Battery Company. He expanded with a larger location at the old
Commerce Street intersection in 1936. As he expanded, he also sold Nash
automobiles and insurance until he formed Andrews Oil Company. In 1955, he
merged with the late Blair Pitzer and Jack Butler to form
Andrews-Pitzer-Butler Fuel Oil Corporation which became the largest home
supplier of fuel oil in the Roanoke Valley. He was also founder and president
of Andrews-Trout, Inc. He was a lifelong member of Melrose United Methodist
Church and in recent years, he attended Windsor Hills United Methodist Church.
He was an active supporter of both congregations. His generosity made it
possible for many young people to receive educational opportunities they
otherwise would not have had. He was a supporter of Blue Ridge Public
Television and among his hobbies were golfing and building bird feeders.

Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Windsor Hills
United Methodist Church by the Rev. D. Michael Meloy and the Rev. Richard L.
McNutt. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will
