OBIT GREEN, CHARLES EDWARD JR.
GREEN, Charles Edward Jr., 80, died at his home near Lowry on March 15,
1993. Born in Petersburg August 17, 1912, he was the son of the late Rev.
Charles Edward Green Sr. and Nannie Walker Morgan Green. He was educated at
Randolph-Macon Academy, Randolph-Macon College, Virginia Polytechnic
Institute, and the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy. During a
career of over 50 years as a community pharmacist, Mr. Green also represented
Bedford County in the Virginia House of Delegates, was a past president of the
Virginia Pharmaceutical Association, and served on numerous state and local
boards, including those of Central Virginia Community College, Dominion Bank,
and Main Street United Methodist Church. He was for many years an instructor
at the Virginia Model General Assembly, and will be remembered locally as a
long-time master of ceremonies for Bedford's Christmas Basket Program. He was
a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge #95 and the Kazim Shrine Temple. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Ann Caldwell Green, and is survived by his
wife, Elizabeth Markham Fowler Green; his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Charles E. Green III; three grandchildren, Charles E. Green IV, Ann
Wilton Green, William Wilson Green. A private family graveside service will be
conducted Thursday, March 18 at 12:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Bedford. A
memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church
with Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass Jr. and the Rev. Clayton C. Riggs officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately after the
service. The family requests that memorials be made to Bedford Christian
Ministries, Main Street United Methodist Church Landscape Project Fund, or
Timber Ridge Baptist Church. The family will be receiving guests at Mr.
Green's home near Lowry and at his son's home in Bedford. Carder-Tharp Funeral
Home, Bedford, is handling arrangements.
