OBIT MASON, CHARLES EDWARD
MASON, Charles Edward, 80, of Riverside, Calif., and formerly of Roanoke
and Ferrum, Va., passed away Sunday, March 14, 1993, at his home. He retired
from the United States Postal Service in Riverside in 1976. He served in the
United States Army Infantry Division during World War II, and when the war
ended, he returned to his job at the U.S. Post Office in Riverside. After his
retirement, he and his wife and son came to live at his farm in Ferrum, Va.,
returning annually to Riverside, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Nadia
Bakely Mason, a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Cecil Norris, and a
grandson, Joshua Luke Mason Norris, all of Riverside; a daughter and
son-in-law, Gloria and Bob Gidcumb, Riverside; a son and daughter-in-law,
Calvin Edward and LuAnne Mason, and four granddaughters, Chrissy, Michelle,
Sharon and Jessica Mason, all of Spotsylvania, Va.; three sisters, Mildred
("Mimi") Dudley of Salem, Lorene M. Melton and Merle M. Muller, both of
Roanoke; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in and around
Roanoke, Va., and Riverside, Calif. A memorial service will be held noon
Monday, March 22, at First Baptist Church, Roanoke, with Dr. Charles Fuller
officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Roanoke. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. His only
brother, the late Paul Eldridge Mason of Roanoke, preceded him in death by
twelve days.
