PULASKI COUNCIL OKS EASEMENT FOR APCO
Pulaski Town Council has approved Appalachian Power Co.'s request for an easement across town property for a 34,500-volt line to increase reliability of electric service.Council granted a 40-year easement Tuesday night across its Loving Field recreational complex. The wood-pole line will tie electric service between two roads; it will be slightly less than a mile long.
Council also decided to study further proposed business-license rate revisions. The existing rate schedule dates from 1964. It has been hard to administer and interpret because business categories are not well defined. The Finance Committee has been reviewing it since last spring.
As proposed, the new schedule would set up six broad categories: contracting, retail sales, financial-real estate-professional, personal repair and business services not specifically listed or excepted, wholesale merchants and public-service companies.
Council also decided to review a study on improving and marketing its two cemeteries, Oakwood and Pinehurst.
It approved a request from Pulaski Seventh-day Adventist Church for an encroachment of about 10 feet on the right-of-way to Fourth Street Northwest to build a handicapped ramp and retaining wall. The ramp will serve the church's west entrance, which has no steps. The town Public Operations Committee had recommended approval of the request.
The Personnel Committee is continuing to meet and interview applicants for town manager. Rob Lyons has been acting manager since Don Holycross left for a job in Atlantic Beach, N.C.
