TECH OPENS FOOTBALL PRACTICE

With the Virginia Tech practice field still covered with snow, the Hokies begin their spring football practice today inside Rector Fieldhouse.

Frank Beamer, beginning his seventh season as Tech coach, has 14 starters returning from last year's 2-8-1 team and has four new coaches on his staff. Beamer has announced plans to switch from the wide-tackle-six defensive alignment to a more conventional 4-3-4 alignment.

The Hokies will practice four days a week in preparation for the annual Maroon-White game on April 17 at 7 p.m.
