Three Southwest Virginia lawyers are seeking the Democratic candidacy for the House of Delegates seat being vacated by Del. Ford Quillen, D-Gate City.Quillen, a Scott County lawyer, has announced that he will not seek re-election for a new term.
Roger Adams and George Cridlin, both from Lee County, and Lonnie Kern of Wise County all have said they would like to succeed Quillen. So has Republican Terry Kilgore, a Scott County attorney.
Quillen has been in the House since 1970 and is the senior member of the Southwest Virginia legislative delegation. His 1st House District originally included Scott, Lee, Dickenson and Wise counties and the city of Norton; and now covers Scott and Lee and a small section of Washington County.
With both Quillen and Del. Joan Munford, D-Blacksburg, stepping down this year, the region will no longer have any committee chairmen in the House of Delegates.
