ADD HIGH MORALS TO MILITARY VIRTUES
IN SEN. Charles S. Robb's commentary (Feb. 23, "Don't exclude gays from military"), he listed five basic virtues that make an excellent soldier. They were:
Devotion to duty.
Loyalty to country, commander and comrades.
Skills in military arts.
Personal integrity.
Courage.
For some reason or purpose, he left off the most important virtue: high morals. His reason could be that it would contradict his opposition to an amendment to ban gays in the military.
Is Sen. Robb saying that homosexuality is a normal and accepted way of life? He is ignoring the warnings of Gen. Colin Powell and his services chiefs that lifting the ban on homosexuals will destroy the armed forces as an effective fighting establishment.
