JANUARY HOME SALES STAY LEVEL
The residential real estate market in the New River Valley during January was uncertain, to say the least, said John T. Mentzer, Virginia Real Estate professor of marketing at Virginia Tech. The number of homes sold in January was about the same as a year earlier, but homes new to the market declined significantly compared to a year earlier.
The good news: Selling prices were up compared to January 1992.
The average selling price of homes in January was $81,607, compared with $72,440 a year earlier.
In January, 132 homes came on the market, compared with 180 a year earlier.
During the same month, 46 were sold, one more than a year earlier.
