COMMISSION EX-CHAIRMAN DAVID DICK DIES AT 85
David Dick, a former chairman of the Roanoke Planning Commission, died Saturday at 85.Dick served as the Roanoke City building inspector from 1948 until 1959, when he resigned to enter private practice as a land surveyor and civil engineer.
Roanoke City Council appointed him to the City Planning Commission in 1960 and he served for eight years. He was elected chairman of the commission in 1968.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Jones Dick; a daughter, Martha Dick, Richmond; and a stepdaughter, Karen Harwood, State College, Pa.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
