UVA, TECH ON TOP AT EMERALD TOURNAMENT
Virginia shot a 290 for a 588 two-round team total and a 15-stroke lead over second-place Virginia Tech in the Sheraton/Emerald Collegiate Invitational in New Bern, N.C.Tech shot a 302 for a 603 total. UNC Charlotte is third at 606.
Neil Connoly of Tennessee-Chattanooga maintained his individual lead, shooting a 74 for a 145 total. One shot back are Virginia teammates Dan Ladd and Tripp Shreves. Tied for fourth are Virginia Tech's Sean Farrell and Brian Sharp. Each shot a 74 for a 148 total.
Virginia Tech's Lewis Conner of Roanoke shot a 75 for a 151 total and is tied for ninth, and Tech's Tom Graziano shot a 79.
The Hokies must play today's final round with only four golfers. Senior captain Clayton Friend of Virginia Tech was 2 over par through 15 holes Saturday when he dislocated his left thumb and had to withdraw. Friend was injured when the strap on his golf bag slipped and snapped.
