BODY FOUND ON FARM IDENTIFIED BY SHERIFF
A man found shot to death on a Patrick County farm Sunday has been identified as Jose Cesareo Mendoza-Almanza, a 49-year-old migrant farm worker, Sheriff Jay Gregory said Monday.Mendoza-Almanza, originally from Mexico, had been working legally in the Patrick County area for about five years, Gregory said. Mendoza-Almanza may have recently been living in the Martinsville area.
His body was found Sunday afternoon in the county's Ararat section by a farmer who had gone out to check his cattle. An autopsy revealed that he had been shot once in the lower back by a small-caliber gun, and that the body may have been there up to two weeks, Gregory said.
No arrests had been made by Monday night.
