Scott Simonson shot a 72 to lead Christopher Newport to team-total 305 and a first-round lead in the Ferrum Invitational on Waterfront Course at Smith Mountain Lake.
Washington and Lee, Greensboro and Hampden-Sydney are tied for second with 312, Ferrum is fifth at 321, VMI is sixth at 324 and Roanoke is eighth at 340. The final round will be played today.
Washington and Lee's Jimmy Kull is second individually at 75.
