SOME CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST ALA. GOVERNOR
A judge threw out theft charges against Gov. Guy Hunt on Monday but ordered him to stand trial next month on a related felony ethics count of illegally taking $200,000 from a 1987 inaugural fund.Circuit Judge Randall Thomas ruled the 12 theft counts against Hunt and three associates involved allegations that were too old to prosecute.
Hunt automatically would be removed from office if convicted of the felony charge of using his office for personal gain. The charge also carries a penalty of two to 10 years in prison. - Associated Press
