BLUE RIDGE EXPORT SUMMIT SCHEDULED
Former Gov. Gerald Baliles and Virginia Economic Development Director April Young will take part in the Blue Ridge Region Export Conference set for April 22 at the Roanoke Sheraton Hotel.They will join business and industry leaders, export development specialists, tourism representatives and government officials from state and local levels in providing international-marketing information.
"The program will provide those who attend with an opportunity to meet and talk to successful Blue Ridge exporters in specific professional fields," said Joe Adams, economic development specialist in Virginia Tech's public service programs.
Baliles will give a keynote address on "Unlimited Export Opportunities." Young will speak on "Organizing and Energizing the Blue Ridge Region for Exports."
Other speakers include Gary Saunders, vice president of Timber Truss Housing Systems; Edwin Schaffner, international sales manager of FiberCom; Donald Tucker, vice president of export sales for The Lane Co.; and Ben Johns, president of The Bacova Ltd.
There will be panel discussions on export opportunities in prefabricated housing and housing supplies, high technology, biotechnology and pollution control, manufactured and value-added products and international tourism starting at 1:30 p.m.
