SUPERVISORS SAY SCHOOL NEEDS NEW EXIT SIGNS
The Pulaski County Board of Supervisors will ask the School Board to place battery-powered exit signs at doors leading out of Pulaski County High School in case of a power failure.Supervisor Bruce Fariss told the governing body Monday night that the school, which largely is without windows, had a "flicker" of a power problem recently.
Even with an emergency generator that would kick on in case of total power failure, he said there would be an interval of total darkness that could lead to panic. The other supervisors agreed to make the request to the School Board.
The supervisors took no immediate action Monday on a request for contributions for a drug- and alcohol-free county prom night party May 8 at the YMCA in Pulaski.
The board approved a conditional-use permit for an outdoor archery range in the Massie District, on the north side of Lee Highway (U.S. 11) near its intersection with Cougar Trail Road (Virginia 643). The private facility would be used on weekends.
The board also reviewed a policy document on the various agencies involved in preserving Claytor Lake. County influence seems to come mainly through land-use controls.
Fariss said the county should take an active role, noting that properties around the lake generate the most county tax revenue of any section. The board will discuss lake policy at its April meeting.
