RED CROSS SETTLES IN HIV-TAINTED BLOOD CLAIM
A man who claims he got the AIDS virus from blood supplied by the American Red Cross has agreed to a settlement of his $10 million lawsuit against that organization.Details of the settlement were not announced. But attorneys said the American Red Cross admitted no negligence in the agreement.
The lawsuit was filed by Bob Jones, 60, a rancher from Wilsall, Mont. Jones said he contracted the AIDS virus while undergoing surgery for a ruptured artery in 1989.
Jones said he hoped the settlement would cover his medical costs. "It will, if I don't live too long," he said.
"Until my dying breath I will try to stop others from getting this disease," he said. "We have to educate our children, our grandchildren, not in safe sex because there is no such thing, but in abstinence."
