LITTLE THEATRE FOUNDER, POET LUCYE WALKER DIES
Lucye Walker, a Roanoke-born actress, teacher and poet, died Tuesday at the age of 84.Walker co-founded the Roanoke Little Theatre in the early 1930s. In the summer of 1935, she was part of the Barter Theatre troupe in Abingdon. In the 1950s, she moved to New York and made several television appearances.
She published at least two books of poetry and taught speech and drama in both Roanoke and New York.
A private funeral is planned. Arrangements are being handled by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
