Group forming to help celiac disease sufferersThe Celiac Disease/Gluten Intolerance Support Group will hold an organizational meeting April 1 at 7 p.m. at the Executive Park, 5346 Peters Creek Road, Suite F.
Celiac sufferers are unable to digest gluten, a mixture of proteins found in many grains. To manage this lifelong condition, patients must learn how to modify their diets.
The group will help patients - children and adults - by providing information, recipes and other tips.

VA hospital names social worker of year
Vic L. Boddie has been named Social Worker of the Year at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Boddie, a social worker in the nursing home care unit, has worked for the VA Medical Center for 12 years. During the past year, Boddie also has served on the HIV Task Force, Ethics Committee, Patient Services Committee, Honor Awards Committee and as an equal employment opportunity counselor and field instructor for graduate students in social work.
Runners-up for this year's award were Charlene Hughes and Margaret Skelly.
Temporary-help agency to raise funds for MDA
Kelly Temporary Services will sponsor a monthlong fund-raising event for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The company will donate 5 cents to MDA for each hour each temporary employee works during April.

Methodist preschool enrolling for 1993-94
Cave Spring United Methodist Church Weekday School is accepting applications for the 1993-94 year. The preschool program is for children who will be 2 to 5 years old as of Sept. 30.
Fees are $31 per month for the one-day-a-week class for 2-year-olds, $50 per month for two days a week for 3- and 4-year-olds, $61 per month for three days a week for 3- and 4-year-olds, and $80 per month for five days a week for 4- and 5-year-olds.

Toastmasters chapter elects new officers
The Talk of the Town Toastmasters Club has elected new officers for 1993.
They are Mike Fricker, president; Eric Root, vice president for education; Barbara Nay, vice president for membership; Ed Andrews, vice president for public relations; Pat Sharrier, secretary/treasurer; and Gary Feazelle, sergeant-at-arms.
The club meets the second and fourth Monday of each month from 7:30-8:45 a.m. at Lewis-Gale Hospital. It is open to those interested in improving their public-speaking skills.
