IN SCHOOL
JENNIFER WEBBER, a senior at Patrick Henry High School, has been selected to receive a $5,000 scholarship through the Horatio Alger National Scholars Program.Only one school is picked from each state to participate.
Webber, who also will attend the National Scholars Conference in April in Washington, D.C., was chosen for her tenacity, motivation and commitment to being her best.
\ SALEM HIGH SCHOOL was one of 22 schools worldwide invited to participate in an international forum on ethnic struggles, held recently at the United Nations in New York.
Participating students were: Owen Woodward, Kevin Dalal, Elizabeth Krupp, Tim Moser, Matt Long, Leanne Cline, Paula Goodwin, Kristy Phlegar, Amy Brewer, Betsy Neathawk, Logan Wallace, and Melissa Taylor.
\ KYLE McMAHAN, a senior at Patrick Henry High School and member of the PRIDE team, has been selected to perform at the PRIDE World Drug Conference April 28-May 2 in Cincinnati.
PRIDE (Parental Resource Institute for Drug Education) is a national organization devoted to drug abuse prevention through education. PRIDE teams deliver their anti-drug message to elementary- and middle-school groups through songs, dances and skits. Patrick Henry's team is one of only two in Virginia.
McMahan is the only Virginia student of the 26 dancers selected for the national team.
