CRIME DOESN'T PAY; TAXPAYERS DO
IN REGARD to the Roanoke city's $5 increase in automobile license decals:It makes one thoroughly disgusted that the people who try to live a decent life and work hard at their jobs have to pay through the nose for those who do nothing but crime and end up in jail. It doesn't seem right to have to pay higher taxes to pay for the ones in jail to have things that a lot of working people can't afford, such as colored television.
If the ones in jail had lived as they should, they wouldn't be in jail. But there are some people who are satisfied to be there as they have a roof over their heads and get three meals a day. RUTH CUNNINGHAM ROANOKE
