Ronald K. Bendy, who did business as the Steak Express, was sentenced to 30 days in jail as part of an agreement reached in Roanoke General District Court, Chief Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Betty Jo Anthony said.
After Bendy pleaded guilty to 10 charges of failing to pay sales taxes to the state, 10 additional charges were dropped. A remaining felony charge was certified to a grand jury.
The charges spanned two years and involved Bendy's door-to-door sales of steaks in residential areas.
Anthony said Bendy, 28, had obtained a business license from the city but made no efforts to submit sales tax to the state.
